Making reservations and belated post of anniversary dinner

I was flipping through photos on my laptop and stumbled upon the pictures from our second anniversary dinner at my new favourite restaurant, Chambar (562 Beatty Street) back at the end of July. How I forgot to post about such a lovely evening and meal, I don’t know. Especially since we only had to pay for a third(!) of it. It was a really nice night out with my guy. How so? Well, there is a great…

Beach fireworks and learning to drive standard

Today is a much needed lazy Sunday morning of doing nothing. It was a long week and I was at the fireworks in English Bay last night with some friends and it was quite the production to get home. Because of lineups for the train, I had to get creative and take an alternate route so I didn’t get home until late. It was a great day at the beach though, and the fireworks by the Italian…

    Rainy Productivity

Today was the day after a long weekend. If you work a Monday to Friday job, you know how brutal this kind of day is. That Monday that was so exciting to have off really means something and you don’t know it until your inbox is super full and the world just doesn’t seem right. And so I sit here decompressing, typing while watching the “Dancing with the Stars” finale. As with many Victoria Day long weekends…

Backstage Baking to the 80’s Rock Jukebox

What is your favourite 80’s rock song? Last week, I went back to the 80’s and now I have that era’s rock soundtrack on the brain. I worked wardrobe for the North America touring cast show of Rock of Ages that was at the The Centre. 80’s clothes, rock music, and dialogue, based in Los Angeles circa mid to late 80’s. The music was awesome – no one can stand still when you have “Here I Go…

    Vancouver Vitamin D Fix

Mother Nature’s plan for Vancouver’s Spring season has not yet included “Spring” weather. Lots of rain and chilly weather, and then last week, out came the sun and warm weather. None of the usual muggy in-between, which really we can all be thankful for, but transition is key between seasons for apparel purposes, etc. I have a beautiful window view from my desk which is fortunate because being cooped up either in the office (day) and the…

Monday morning spill and World Book Night

SPILLS This morning my smoothie spilled. And not just on the counter (which is what normally happens). No, that would be too easy to deal with… Instead, my to-go smoothie container fell off the counter, on to our stone tile floor, broke, and sloshed my smoothie across the the floor and on to most of the bottom cupboards – AND up on to my jeans and top. Right as I was getting ready to leave the house.…

Macadamia Nut “Cheese” + other dairy alternatives

Cheese. Yoghurt. Ice cream. Milk – well maybe not so much milk, (milk and I aren’t really friends) but it’s an essential ingredient for a Mac and cheese roux… I miss dairy. A lot. There’s nothing quite like our mac and cheese or the sweet but savory taste of goat cheese in a salad or on a pizza. But, I have found alternatives for the duration of OHAC (and perhaps after). CHEESE I need to start with…

    Sticking to the basics

In comparison to last year’s cleanse, day one of OHAC has been non-traumatic. Maybe because I sort of know what to expect and am better prepared this time ’round. I didn’t try to do anything fancy, just stuck with the basics; and it was a stress-free day. I made my breakfast protein muffins last night using the gluten-free mix, and aside from one very minor thing, they turned out fantastic. The minor thing was that the muffin liner…
