Settling in and donating to Hurricane Sandy disaster relief
Before I start, I wanted to alert everyone of a really great thing one of my favourite bloggers is doing to raise funds for Red Cross Hurricane Sandy disaster relief on the East Coast. Until Nov 6, you can enter to win one of two really great giveaways by making a donation to the Oh She Glows Red Cross donation page. It’s obviously a fantastic cause and in donating, you have a chance to win a foodie…

Mexico Bound, Waiting in Calgary
It’s 2:45 am and I’m in Calgary airport; valiantly trying to stay awake before my 6am flight so I can sleep on the plane to Puerto Vallarta. Finally. It’s time for my sunny vacation in one of my absolute favourite places to go, Nuevo Vallarta. Sean is now alone on cat/housesitting duty until Wednesday. The cat looked so upset with me when I was packing my bags. Genuinely heart wrenching. I’m on my own for this trip…

The Scottish Invasion – Part One – Seattle and Pulled Pork
Today was a sad day for two reasons: 1) Sean is away for a week for work; and 2) Our friends from Scotland are now on a plane back to the UK. So, after a week of a full house, I have it all to myself, and I’m still uncertain how I’m feeling about that. I know I will enjoy the weekend to myself, because next week I’m back at work for what may be a chaotic…

“Pimped Out” Macaroni and Cheese
The weather has been wonky in Vancouver. I’m home sick today and I think the weather changed about five times. Mother Nature can’t seem to make up her mind last week or so. Rain? Snow? Sun? Hail? Maybe one in each corner of the Lower Mainland. The one consistency is that it has been chilly no matter the elements. Certainly not anywhere close to being Spring… And in the mean time, it was 26 degrees in Winnipeg…

Alberta Bound (and Arrived)
I am sitting in a beautiful house watching the Canucks kick the Oilers to the ground. I’m just outside Edmonton sitting my with Canucks jersey clad hubby and his Oilers jersey clad cousin Ward. And I’m feeling rather smug. Why, you ask, are we in Alberta? Purpose: Operation Surprise Ward. Sean’s cousin and one of his best friends. He was best man at our wedding and his birthday is on Tuesday. We coordinated with his wife and…

The Napoli Diaries – Part 2 / Homemade Pizza
The last few days, I’ve been missing Napoli and the food. To be blunt, its that time of the month and I’ve been craving pizza and pasta. To my credit, I haven’t stuffed my face with carbs – I’ve eaten completely the opposite (aside from the truffles that I’ve become addicted to). But today is the exception. And so I made dough and sauce from scratch so I could make pizza. (Recipes below. Unfortunately, they are not…

Jet lag, Venison Stew/Pie, Edinburgh last days
And we’re back. It’s been a week and I’m now ready to finish documenting the trip. It snowed this weekend much to everyone’s surprise. But it’s sunny and beautiful out – I am grateful for no rain. It will make today’s grocery trip much more pleasant. So, the trip. Numbers 28 days 8 (count’em, EIGHT) plane rides 3 countries 50+ km walked 2 awesome shows 24 kg (The weight of my backpack going Naples-London-Edinburgh; Sean’s was heavier.)…

Wind, rain, food
Today is our last full day in Edinburgh before we go back to London before flying home to Vancouver. I’m very sad to be leaving, but I must say, I’m not going to miss the damn wind and torrential rain… (And I’m from Vancouver. )Windblown Yesterday, we were meant to go to Glasgow to visit my friend Kyle and watch a hockey game, but that was put on hold and then cancelled as there were gale force…
