Island Road Trip – 9 Things to Do in Victoria

It’s been a busy few weeks, but I’ve finally had a chance to go through photos and do a road trip download from my notes. The Island is a perfect place for a road trip, and the Brit and I celebrated his birthday with four-and-a-half days of exploring. (As my calling him “The Brit” would suggest, he isn’t from here, so I love visiting places with him that I haven’t been to in a long time. It gives me a fresh lens.) We started in Victoria and, from there, focused our attention on the eastern side of the Island. (The west side and the crazy all-season surfing people will have…

    Yukon Days – Part One

A couple days ago, this city girl got on a plane to the Great ‘White’ North. I say ‘White’ because, well it’s summer, and right now, it’s mostly the Great ‘Green’ North. Still spectacularly beautiful though. It’s so… Open.  Or, as the Travel Yukon tagline says: Larger Than Life. My flight was me and a very large Swiss tour group that comprised of very active senior citizens. Despite this, the plane was not full and I had not only the rare treat of a window seat (a battle I tend to lose with my pilot husband), but the entire row to myself.  I must say, the Swiss looked, as most European…

The Scottish Invasion – Part One – Seattle and Pulled Pork

Today was a sad day for two reasons: 1) Sean is away for a week for work; and 2) Our friends from Scotland are now on a plane back to the UK. So, after a week of a full house, I have it all to myself, and I’m still uncertain how I’m feeling about that. I know I will enjoy the weekend to myself, because next week I’m back at work for what may be a chaotic week; I won’t have time to think about the fact that I have the house to myself. 😉 And so, I present Part One of the Scottish Invasion: After months of waiting and…

Sunday Date Night – Memphis Blues BBQ

Summer is officially here. Finally. It’s me, SPF 30, my UPF 50 hat, and whatever pair of flip flops strike my fancy that particular day to go to/from work. I’m cycling through my many sundresses and Sean is officially in shorts every day. We can open our newly screened windows and patio door all day long. It’s great. It also means that practical activities like cleaning the house or doing a Pilates DVD become slightly more arduous. There’s a saying that I can’t remember where I first heard but it’s “horses sweat, men perspire, and ladies glow”. Despite open windows and a fan, I was definitely glowing last Sunday after…

    Wind, rain, food

Today is our last full day in Edinburgh before we go back to London before flying home to Vancouver. I’m very sad to be leaving, but I must say, I’m not going to miss the damn wind and torrential rain… (And I’m from Vancouver.  )Windblown Yesterday, we were meant to go to Glasgow to visit my friend Kyle and watch a hockey game, but that was put on hold and then cancelled as there were gale force winds (102 miles/hour!) across the south of Scotland and Northern England. The trains were suspended and bus service was sporadic. So we stayed in windy Edinburgh and watched the fence nearly fall over…
